Shuree Ponds
In the scenic Valle Vidal, a day use area with three ponds for seasonal fishing (see restrictions below).
General Information
- Fishing license requried.
- Special Trout Water: Green Chile designation
- Tackle restrictions: Artificial fly or lure with single, barbless hook. Bag limit two (2) trout only.
- Open to fishing July 1 - Dec. 31.
- Fishing allowed daylight hours from 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset
- The lower pond is for angler 11 years or age and younger only.
- Restricted to boats without motors only.
- Special Trout Water: Green Chile designation

Directions
- From Costilla, N.M.
- Take Highway 196 east toward Rio Costilla Park.
- Continue straight when the highway turns into Forest Road 1950.
- Turn right when Forest Road 1950 turns south at Comanche Point. Do not continue straight on Forest Road 1900 to the Costilla Dam.
- Continue for approximatley 11 miles to Shuree Ponds.
- From Cimarron, N.M.
- Go north on Highway 64.
- Turn left onto Forest Road 1950.
- Continue approximately 37 miles to Shuree Ponds.

- No paved roads.
- Unreliable cell phone service.
