The Sacramento Ranger District Slide Campground Prescribed Pile Burn just south of Cloudcroft had a successful test ignition this morning. We are seeing good smoke lift and consumption of debris and fuels.

    Ignitions will continue this afternoon.

Slide Campground piles in the ignition phase of burning. As you can see, we had some snow fall which provides excellent conditions for prescribed burn as the snow aids in natural containment.

Slide Campground Prescribed Pile Burn was a huge success! Crews were able to treat 20 acres with good results and all piles remaining secured.

Looking Ahead – All ignitions are complete, and crews have moved into mop-up operations or extinguishing remaining heat within the piles. Crews will continue to revisit the area until they are able to call the Slide Campground Prescribed Pile Burn 100% out.

Once we are able to make this determination, we will be sure to share it with you!

Local crew members work on mop-up operations today. Mop-up includes extinguishing leftover heat by hand. Here crews are breaking down a stump to find all remaining heat and put it out. This process will continue until we can determine the project is 100% out.
