Collaborating with volunteers, either individuals or groups, provides the Lincoln National Forest with ongoing support in a variety of program areas. Some examples include
- trail maintenance
- campground improvements
- archaeological site stewardship
- stream restoration
- wildlife counts
Flexibility is at the core of our volunteer program. Whether you’re able to commit full‑time for several months, contribute a few hours each week, or offer a one‑time service project, there’s a place for you on the Lincoln National Forest. We welcome volunteers with all levels of availability and experience.
College students can gain hands‑on experience, explore Forest Service career paths, or earn academic credit through internship programs. Many individuals discover that their volunteer work provides valuable professional skills that support future careers in natural resources and public land management. Retirees often find renewed purpose in sharing their expertise, staying active, and giving back to the community.

Archaeological Site Stewardship
Other, submit a Volunteer Interest Form to SM.FSPAO.LNF@usda.gov.
We will review your form and, if there are any current or upcoming opportunities, we will share information on those that would be a good match for you!
Adopt a Trail Program
If you love spending time outdoors, trail adoption is a meaningful way to support the Lincoln. You or your group can adopt a trail, receive recognition on a sign, and help care for a piece of the forest you enjoy.

Free Recreation Passes for Volunteers
Nationwide Pass
When you reach 250 eligible volunteer hours, you can apply for an America the Beautiful Volunteer pass, valid at more than 2,000 Federal recreation sites,
New Mexico Enchantment Pass
Individuals or families can obtain one free Enchantment Annual Pass with 24 volunteer hours.

How You can Easily Help
You don't have to sign up or join a group to make a difference - you can do that on your own each time you visit.
