Horse Riding and Camping
Home of the World's Oldest Rodeo, it is no wonder that the City of Prescott and surrounding Yavapai County are popular among the equestrian community. Back Country Horsemen of Central Arizona is one of many trail user groups that partner with Prescott National Forest to create and maintain a robust system of trails.
Horseback Riding
Equestrians are allowed on almost every trail on the Forest, but some areas are more amenable to peaceful rides than others. The Forest's eight Wilderness Areas are great places for equestrians because bicycles and motorized vehicles are prohibited in Wilderness resulting in a more peaceful atmosphere. Other areas popular with equestrians include trails in the vicinity of Cayuse Equestrian Trailhead and Groom Creek Horse Camp.
Horse Camping
Designed and operated in partnership with Backcountry Horsemen of Arizona, Groom Creek Horse Camp accommodates only campers with horses. Located near Spruce Mountain, equestrians can hit the Forest's world class trails right from their spacious camp sites. Corrals, water troughs, and hitching posts scattered throughout the campground make this a paradise for equestrian camping!
