St. Clair OHV Permit Zone

St. Clair OHV Permit Zone motorized use area on the Cave Creek Ranger District.

Located in the Cave Creek Ranger District about one hour from Phoenix, this 24,500 acre area provides approximately 65 miles of motorized routes.

Included in this trail system is the iconic Telegraph Line Trail (MT-42) which is a high-difficulty trail best suited for modified full-size 4WD vehicles with lift, oversize tires and at least one axle locking device. MT-42 is a one-way route accessed from North Lake Road and exiting at Horseshoe Dam Road.

Access to the St. Clair OHV Permit Zone is provided at Kentuck Mountain Staging Area, Indian Spring Staging Area, Corral Access, Sunrise Ridge Access, Camp Creek Access, and the Telegraph Line East Trail Access (see map).

Heavy investment has been made by Partners and Volunteers by means of trail rehabilitation work and major repairs, route inventory and sign installation, and resource protection. Please ride responsibly and help keep this area open.

Motorized use requires a Tonto NF OHV Permit. See the OHV Permit FAQ for details about when a motorized use permit is needed. Be sure you’ve reviewed the Rules and Regulations of the OHV areas and please recreate responsibly!
