Horton Creek
This trail follows along Horton Creek, past pools of water and winds through magnificent stands of pine as it makes its way up to Horton Spring. Great for loop hikes. An all-day 10-mile loop hike is possible by taking Derrick Trail #33 and Highline Trail #31, then going north on Highline Trail #31 to Horton Spring: Follow Horton Creek Trail #285 back to Upper Tonto Campground.

No motorized vehicles are allowed. If you PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT!! Carry an adequate supply of drinking water. One gallon per person per day is recommended during hot periods. Hikers, yield the right of way to trail stock. Portions of the trail are rough in places and should be traveled with caution. Trail users may complete the loop hike by turning southeast on the Highline trail. After three (3) miles turn right (southwest) at the junction with Derrick Trail 33 and back to Upper Tonto Creek Campground.

Directions
From Payson, travel 16 miles east on State Hwy. 260. Just east of mile marker 268 at Kohl’s Ranch, turn left (north) on Forest Road (FR) 289. Travel one mile and turn right into the site.
