Hideout Boat-In Campground
Hideout Boat-In Campground is beautifully situated on Flaming Gorge Reservoir, about 2 miles from the nearest road, and surrounded by scenic cliffs. The campground, forested with pinyon pine and juniper, offers limited shade but plenty of natural beauty. It gets its name from a historic hiding spot used by Butch Cassidy and his gang. Most sites provide partial views of the reservoir.
The campground offers flush restrooms and potable water, but it's important to note that the water source can run low if conservation isn't observed. Please be mindful of water usage to ensure availability for all campers.
Popular activities right at your doorstep include boating, water skiing, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. The campground is accessible only by boat or hike-in. Most visitors choose to boat in using the Sheep Creek Bay Boat Ramp, while hikers can access the campground via the Hideout/Carter Creek Trailhead on Dowd Mountain, off Forest Road 094.
The gravel trails from the docks to the campsites are steep and do not meet accessibility standards, so some visitors may require assistance. These paths change each year due to water fluctuations. Lucerne Valley Marina is just a few miles away by boat and offers gas, boat slips, fishing licenses, bait, and groceries at the small general store.
Firewood is available for purchase.
Don't Move Firewood: Help prevent the spread of tree-killing pests in our national forests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
