North Slope Uinta Mountains
The North Slope of the Uinta Mountains recreation region consists of the area on the Flaming Gorge Ranger District outside of the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. The area is situated on the north facing slope of the eastern Uinta Mountains. It is predominantly forested with mixed ecosystems of Ponderosa and Lodgepole Pine. There are opportunities for both developed recreation at campgrounds and day-use sites, as well as dispersed recreation, including dispersed camping, hiking, hunting and fishing.
General Information
The North Slope of the Uinta Mountains provide diverse recreation opportunities. There are several developed campgrounds and day use sites, but also abundant opportunities for dispersed camping and associated activities. The region is home to the Sheep Creek Geologic Loop scenic backway, and home of the Sheep Creek National Geologic Area. Here you will view amazing rock formations and travel back in geologic time.
The area is also known for its access to Spirit Lake as well as trailheads to the High Uintas Wilderness.
