Ely Ranger District

The Ely Ranger District office is located in Ely (pop. 3,924), Nevada. The District also lies in Lincoln, Nye, and White Pine Counties. Located in eastern Nevada, the Ely Ranger District is around one million acres. The District has some of the most rugged backcountry on the Forest. Its nine designated wilderness areas offers a solitude-filled backcountry adventure for those looking to be a self-reliant traveler.

The Ely Ranger District is made up of rugged, mountainous terrain, with elevations ranging from 6,500 feet to 12,072 feet at Mount Moriah. Some of the highest points in Nevada are located on the Ely Ranger District. In the higher elevations of the District, sub-alpine vegetation covers the landscape with bristlecone and limber pine trees. Dry pinyon-juniper forestland dominates a large part of the lower elevations.
