Forest Order
Pursuant to Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 261.50 (a), the following acts are prohibited on the area described below until further notice, all within the Payette National Forest.
- Building, maintaining, attending or using an open (uncontained) fire outside of a fire ring provided by the Forest Service or without using a fire pan in accord with the procedures and techniques as described in the attachment to this order. (Title 36 CFR 261.52 a).
- Riding, hitching, tethering, or hobbling a horse or other saddle or pack animal in violation of posted instructions and as outlined in the attachment to this order. (Title 36 CFR 261.58(aa)
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order.
- Persons with a permit or contract specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act.
- Any Federal, State or Local Law enforcement officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- Forest Service administrative personnel in the performance of an official duty.
Area Described Adjacent to the Chamberlain airfield in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness bounded on the south by Chamberlain Creek and within a quarter mile horizontal distance from centerline of runway 07-25 and runway 15-33 of the Chamberlain Airstrip on the north, east and west side as depicted on the attached map.
Reason for Closure To protect the resources, quality and wilderness character of the area.
Campfires: Open (uncontained) camp fires will be built only in Forest Service provided fire rings in the area specifically defined around the Chamberlain Airfield, EXCEPT, an open campfire may be built where appropriate precautions are taken, through the use of a fire pan of other similar device, to prevent ground scorching. The ashes from the use of such fire pan or other similar device may be drowned and when cool disposed of by scattering out of sight, away from commonly used camping areas in the brush.
Horse Holding: Camping with horses will be at sites designated for such use in the Chamberlain Airfield Campground area. Such camping shall be limited to one 24 hour period every 7 days. At all other locations within the specified area, horses may be ridden for the purpose of travelling through the area or held for short duration (periods not to exceed 2 hours) only while loading or unloading of gear and equipment, where such use shall not interfere with other uses of the airfield or camping areas.
