Road and Trail Status

Current Road and Trail Status (by district)

Accessibility of various roads and trails on the forest depends on the season and the weather. Some road conditions can be predicted, others cannot. Unpredictable events of nature can produce road hazards which may take longer to clear. Be flexible and enjoy the journey!

  • Pacific Ranger District - Crystal Basin Area
  • Placerville Ranger District - Highway 50 Corridor
  • Amador Ranger District - Highway 88 Corridor
  • Georgetown Ranger District - Wentworth Springs and Hell Hole area
FOREST-WIDE OR MULTI DISTRICT CLOSURES
RoadDistrictStatus
Dirt Roads and Trails (native surface, unpaved)Forest wide

Open

In the spring as the snow melts, wet areas should be avoided to prevent damage. Use the forest's Motor Vehicle Use Maps to ensure you're riding on designated routes.

Extended Closure: Rainfall, soil moisture, road and trail conditions, and weather forecasts may trigger an extension of the seasonal closure past April 1.

  • Annual Closure: Jan. 1 through at least March 31. May be extended depending on forest conditions.

During the winter and spring, vehicle use on dirt roads and trails is prohibited. Using soaked roads and trails contributes to sediment in streams and costly trail damage. Allow roads and trails to dry sufficiently, to enjoy quality trails in the future.
