NORTH FORK KERN WILD AND SCENIC RIVER CAMPING PROHIBITION
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety and protect natural resources, the following act is prohibited within the Kern River Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest. This Order is effective from October 30, 2024, through October 29, 2026.
Camping, outside of the developed campgrounds and designated dispersed camping areas listed in Exhibit A, in the locations described below and shown on the attached map:
- North Fork Camping Prohibited Area: The boundary of the North Fork Camping Prohibited Area begins at the intersection of the eastern bank of the North Fork of the Kern Wild and Scenic River and the northern section line of Section 4, Township 25 South, Range 33 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian, then continues due east to a point 1,000 feet east of County Road Mountain 99, then continues approximately 17 miles north along County Road Mountain 99 at a distance of 1,000 feet to its intersection with a point 1,000 feet east of the Johnsondale Bridge, Section 35, T.22S., R.32E., MDB&M, then continues due west to its intersection with the eastern bank of the North Fork of the Kern Wild and Scenic River, then continues south along the eastern bank of the North Fork of the Kern Wild and Scenic River back to the starting point.
- Within 500 feet of the Johnsondale Bridge in Section 35, Township 22 South, Range 32 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian.

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- Persons with a Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or
$10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and l 8 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
