Wahtum Lake Road to close temporarily for landslide repair

Wahtum Lake and Indian Springs Trailhead will be inaccessible by vehicle during construction

Release Date: September 2nd, 2025

Mt. Hood National Forest will close Forest Road 1310 to Wahtum Lake and a small section of Forest Road 13 for repairs between Sept. 8 and Oct. 3. Wahtum Lake Campground, Wahtum Lake Trailhead and Day Use, and Indian Springs Trailhead will be inaccessible by vehicle during construction.

Repeated landslides on the hillside above Forest Road 1310 have occasionally closed the road for the past several years. This steep hillside is made up of loose material that continually sloughs with high levels of precipitation in the spring and fall. Rockfall has been blocking proper drainage from the roadway causing further damage to the road and creating major safety hazards for travelers. A contractor will work to stabilize the slope and maintain drainage features to keep the road safer and open for many years to come.

Project activities will also close a segment of Forest Road 13 at the Forest boundary to Forest Road 1310. This will not affect access to Lost Lake Resort.

Wahtum Lake Campground, operated by Lost Lake Resort Inc., will close early for the season; the last night for camping is Saturday, Sept. 6.

Visitors can still access Wahtum Lake via Rainy-Wahtum Trail #409 and Anthill Trail #406B from Rainy Lake Campground.
