Gnarl Ridge Trail #652

This shorter trail is in the Mount Hood Wilderness on the east side of Mount Hood. This trail connects Elk Meadows Trail #645 with Timberline Trail #600. This trail is widely open with great vistas and is popular for people interested in going up Newton Creek #646 to Timberline #600.

This trail begins at Elk Meadow Trail #645 (5,260’) and ends at Timberline Trail #600 (5,700’). The trail heads northwest and climbs at a moderate grade from its junction with Elk Meadow Trail #645. After 0.7 miles the trail reaches the junction with Gnarl Ridge Cutoff Trail #652A. Continue heading northwest 0.3 mile to the end of the trail at its junction with Timberline Trail #600.

Directions

From Portland, OR head east on Highway 26 to the junction of Highway 35. Head north on Highway 35 to the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski area lower access road to the Elk Meadows Trailhead.
