Some special sites in the Pacific Northwest may require seasonal timed entry permits, wilderness/backcountry permits, or a ticket reservation during peak season. Search for special permits, timed entry, or tickets by location.

Special Use Permits

A special-use authorization is a legal document such as a permit, term permit, lease, or easement, which allows occupancy, use, rights, or privileges of National Forest System land. The agency’s special-use program, which follows agency policy and federal law, allows uses of those lands that provide a benefit to the general public and protect public and natural resources values.

Filming and Photography

Filming

Filming, photography, and audio recording activities do not require a permit when it is incidental to, or documenting, an activity that is otherwise allowed on NFS land so long as no resource damage is likely to occur as a result of the filming, photography, or audio recording. This may include filming a family reunion or photographing a 5k event for which you already have a permit.
