Chestnut Mountain Shooting Range

 Located within the Johns Mountain WMA, this area has shooting benches for rifles and handguns, a covered shed over the benches, and accessible benches. Chestnut Mountain is a 100 yard shooting range with intervals of 25, 50 and 100 yards.  Bring your own paper targets.  Gravel parking for 10 vehicles. Gravel path to restroom and shooting shed.

Current Conditions
Pay for your activity pass at Chestnut Mountain with the Recreation.gov Mobile App. Log into your Recreation.gov account through the mobile app and scan the QR code at the area. Follow the on-screen instructions. If you don't have an account, you'll need to create one to use Scan & Pay before you go to the range. Please have your proof of payment available for review upon request.

General Information

Open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until sunset.  Closed Sundays

Rifles and Handguns only. Shotguns may only be patterned. Bring your own paper targets.  Alcohol is not permitted on the range, in the parking lot, or on the shooting range access road. Skeet shooting not allowed.

$5/person/day.   Download the Recreation.gov mobile App before visiting the shooting range!  Day passes can be purchased through Recreation.gov website prior to visiting or with the Scan and Pay feature through the mobile App at the range kiosk.  Once the mobile App is loaded onto your device, phone service is not needed to purchase a pass at Chestnut Mountain Range.  Simply follow the instructions on the information kiosk.  An Annual Permit is also available for $25.00 per shooter per year, applicable to the purchaser only, by visiting the Conasauga Ranger District Office.

Getting There

Directions

The Chestnut Mountain Shooting Range is located at the southern end of Snake Creek Gap, approximately 1/2 mile off State Highway 136, southeast of Villanow, GA. From Villanow, travel south approximately 7 miles on State Highway 136. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 212. Forest Service Road 212 will fork just before reaching the range. Stay to the left and the parking lot will be 100 yards on the right.
