  • Vehicle requirements for use of Peters Mill Run/Taskers Gap Trail System

     

    Only four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, or similar high clearance vehicles are allowed at the Peters Mill Run/Taskers Gap Trail System. 

    Vehicle operators must have a valid state operator’s license as required by state law and vehicles my be registered with the State Department of Motor Vehicles (except for all terrain vehicles, motorcycles, or similar high clearance vehicles which cannot be registered.) 

    Vehicles must have operable brakes, muffler, spark arrester, head, tail and brake lights, an must not exceed a noise limit of 99 DBA at 20 feet at test RPMs.

    Vehicle cannot have metal studded tires.

Peters Mill Run – Taskers Gap Prohibitions

Pursuant to Title 16 U.S.C. § 551 and Title 36 C.F.R. § 261.50, the following acts are prohibited on the Forest Roads that provide access to the Peters Mill Run-Taskers Gap OHV Trail System, and to the trails and trailheads that comprise the Peters Mill Run-Taskers Gap OHV Trail System on the Lee Ranger District of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. This Forest Order is effective from the date signed by the Forest Supervisor until August 30, 2028, or until terminated by an authorized Forest Service official, whichever occurs first.

Prohibitions. The following acts are prohibited:

  1. Using a motor vehicle other than a four-wheel drive vehicle, all-terrain vehicle, motorcycle, or similar high clearance vehicle 36 CFR 261.54(a).
  2. Operating a motor vehicle without a valid state operator’s license as required by state law 36 CFR 261.54(d).
  3. Operating a vehicle which has not been registered with the State Department of Motor Vehicles except for all terrain vehicles, motorcycles, or similar high clearance vehicles which cannot be registered even when properly maintained 36CFR 261.54(d).

  4. Operating a motor vehicle without operable brakes, muffler, spark arrester, head, tail and brake lights or which exceeds a noise limit of 99 DBA at 20 feet at test RPMs 36 CFR 261.54(d).
  5. Operating a motor vehicle with metal studded tires 36 CFR 261.54(a).

Exemptions: Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of their official duty.
  3. Persons with a Forest Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order, Form FS-7700-48, specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order.

Violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC § 551 and 18 USC §§ 3559, 3571 and 3581.
