War Branch Trail (Forest Trail #69)

War Branch Trail links to the Appalachian Trail via the War Spur Loop Trail. War Branch Trail branches off from the northern section of the War Spur Loop about a quarter mile from the loop trailhead. From there, it is an easy 1.2 mile hike to the Appalachian Trail. Once at the junction with the Appalachian Trail, hikers can turn left and travel 3.6 miles to the Wind Rock overlook.

Directions

From Blacksburg, VA: Follow US 460 west for 6.5 miles. Turn right on Mountain Lake Road (State Route 700). Travel 3.5 miles past Mountain Lake Hotel. War Spur Trailhead is on the right. War Branch veers off from the War Spur Loop.
