The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas (NFGT) have a rich history rooted in conservation and stewardship. Established during the 1930s following decades of timber harvest and land depletion, these public lands represent a commitment to restoring and protecting Texas’ forests, prairies, and waterways. 

Early exploration and settlement left a lasting imprint, but it was through the work of visionaries, foresters, and the Civilian Conservation Corps that these lands were carefully restored. Today, NFGT’s forests and grasslands stand as living examples of sustainable land management, where natural beauty, wildlife, and recreation are preserved for all to discover.
