Where to Ride

Rider Safety Tips:

  • Plan ahead and ride responsibly. Help keep trails safe and sustainable for all users.

 Before You Ride:

  • Check weather and trail conditions. Rain can make trails hazardous or closed.
  • Know the rules. Some trails are multi-use (hikers, bikers, riders) – yield appropriately.
  • Map it out. Bring a physical map or GPS. Cell signal can be unreliable in remote areas.

 While on Trial:

  • Wear a helmet and appropriate riding gear.
  • Ride single file to reduce trail impact.
  • Stay on designated trails – riding off-trail can damage habitat and resources.
  • Pack out waste and clean up after your horse at trailheads and camps.

 At Camp:

  •  Avoid tying directly to trees.
  • Bring feed or certified weed-free hay to prevent invasive plant spread.

Things to Know

  • Forest trail use is free but camping and day-use fees may apply at some trailheads or recreation areas.
  • Fire restrictions may be in place during dry seasons.
  • Trails are maintained by the Forest Service with support from equestrian clubs and volunteers.
