Forest Order
Prohibitions:
Under the authority of the Act of Congress of June 4, 1897, as amended (16 USC 551), and the Secretary of Agriculture's Regulations 36 CFR 261.50(a) and or (b), the following acts and omissions are prohibited within the boundaries of the Sylvania Perimeter Area on the Ottawa National Forest:
- Camping except in a campsite that is designated by a Forest Service constructed fire ring or grill. 36CFR 261.58(e)
- Building, maintaining, attending, cooking, or using a fire or campfire, including charcoal fires, outside of a Forest Service constructed fire ring or grill, except when using pressurized liquid or gas stoves. 36 CFR 261.52(a)
- Possessing or transporting any motor or mechanical device capable of propelling a watercraft through water by any means except at the Forest Service boat landings at Long Lake and Crooked Lake. 36 CFR 261.58(w)
- Entering or being in the perimeter area portion of Clark Lake while in possession of a wind-powered craft. 36 CFR 261.58(k)
- Possessing a dog, pet or other domestic animal not on a six (6) foot leash or shorter; or allowing a dog, pet or other domestic animal to be unattended or otherwise not under control; except during Michigan State sanctioned hunting seasons while actively pursuing game consistent with State hunting regulations. 36 CFR 261.58(s)
- Entering or being on any island within the perimeter area between "ice-off" and July 15 of each year. 36 CFR 261.53(a)
- Possessing, storing or transporting any Smallmouth or Largemouth Bass or parts thereof, across National Forest System lands within the perimeter area except upon leaving Long Lake and Crooked Lake. 36 CFR 261.58(s)
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Sub-part A.
Affected Area:
This Order applies to the Sylvania Perimeter Area and is located in portions of the following sections: [(T44N-R41W, Sections 31, 32, 33, 34) and (T44N-R39W, Sections 18, 31, 32)].

Exemptions:
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (e), the following person(s) will be exempt from the order:
- Any Federal, State, or Local Officer, or members of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- Persons with a valid permit in their possession signed by the District Ranger or Forest Supervisor specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
Enforcement:
Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. (16 U.S.C. 551 and 18 U.S.C. 3559 and 3571)
