Campton, NH, April 9, 2025 White Mountain National Forest is planning prescribed fire operations in mid-April as weather conditions allow. We use prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.

Prescribed fires planned for the area include:

  • Betty Brook Lower – Androscoggin Ranger District (Coos County, 7 miles northwest of Berlin, NH)
  • Fifield Brook – Androscoggin Ranger District (Coos County, 7 miles northwest of Berlin, NH)
  • Roost – Androscoggin Ranger District (Oxford County, 2 miles south of Gilead, ME)
  • Crawford Golf Course – Pemigewasset Ranger District (Carroll County, 7 miles southeast of Twin Mountain)
  • Zealand Fields – Pemigewasset Ranger District (Carroll County, 2 miles east of Twin Mountain)
  • Breezy Point – Pemigewasset Ranger District (Grafton County, 4 miles northeast of Warren, NH)
  • South Branch Gale River Piles – Pemigewasset Ranger District (Grafton County, 5 miles southwest of Twin Mountain)
  • Hotel Field – Saco Ranger District (Carroll County, 1 mile west of Passaconaway, NH)
  • Moats – Saco Ranger District (Carroll County, 2 miles southwest of North Conway, NH)
  • Albany – Saco Ranger District (Carroll County, 3 miles southwest of North Conway, NH)
  • Hales Location – Saco Ranger District (Carroll County, 2 miles southwest of North Conway, NH)

Those areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns.

Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. Go to https://fire.airnow.gov/ to find more detailed information about air quality. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.

We will evaluate weather conditions in the hours before a burn begins. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled.

Stay informed about the scheduled prescribed fires through the forest website, social media channels, and InciWeb, the interagency incident information system. We will notify State of NH Forest & Lands, and local emergency dispatch centers when burning begins.
