- Abstract:
- The public input included in this data publication was gathered during post-fire restoration planning efforts on the Mendocino National Forest in California during late 2023 and early 2024. The study was conducted in collaboration with managers on the Mendocino National Forest, and it engaged members of the public both in-person and virtually. Data includes public input of 523 people and includes opinions about the importance of forest benefits (e.g., hunting and fishing, clean air, old growth trees and forests), where on the forest important benefits are enjoyed or derived, the factors or drivers of change (e.g., invasive plants and animals, increased maintenance and building of roads) that influence their most important benefits, opinions about post-fire restoration strategies, vegetation types that should be prioritized, priorities for recreation investment, places where people get their information, and demographic characteristics. Data are provided in two separate files, with the first containing responses to all questions where respondents were asked to map or share a location. The second data file includes all other respondent-level data. Also included are the original survey instruments, maps associated with the surveys, and the final report summarizing this study.
