The GMUG National Forest encompasses diverse landscapes and a wide range of elevations over its 2.9 million acres.  Visitors to our forest can explore canyons scattered with scrub-oak and pinyon-juniper, plateaus with patches of ponderosa pine intermixed with aspen stands, dark timbered mountainsides, rock cliff faces with thundering waterfalls, lush alpine meadows, lichen covered boulders above treeline, and summer icefields leading up to the higest peaks.  Each landscape supports a unique set of flora and fauna  that can be observed and photographed by the quiet, unobtrusive and patient nature observer.
