ACCESSIBLE AREAS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Oaks Picnic Area:  Day Use only.    

West Fork Road:  Access for people with disabilities is available by permit at the San Gabriel River Ranger District located in Glendora. 

Glenn Camp:Located off West Fork Road.  Three sites are available for people with disabilities.  Call first for availability.

 

ROADS:  Roads may close down at any time due to weather or road conditions.  Chains should be in the car at all times.

Highway 39: Open to Crystal Lake Road junction (mm 38.13). 

Visitors can recreate below and above the Cabin Fire area, but must remain on the highway with no stopping or parking within the closed portion.    The area of limited access is north of West Fork Rest Area (mm 28.35) to south of Coldbrook campground (mm 30.80

Crystal Lake Road: Open. 

East Fork Road: Open

Glendora Mtn Road: Open 

Glendora Ridge Road:  Open. 

Mt. Baldy Road:  Open. 

 

OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLE AREAS & ROUTES:

Registration and Forest Service approved spark arrestors are required.  ATV and dirt bike riders must wear a helmet.  ATV riders under the age of 18 must complete a safety class.  All vehicles must meet local, State and Federal laws.

No Alcoholic beverages are allowed  

Areas may be closed at any time due to unsafe conditions caused by storms, fire danger or excessive use capacity.

San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area: Saturday/Sunday 8 am to 4:00 pm.  All vehicles must exit the area by 4:30.  FEES: $8.00 for the Primary vehicle and $5.00 for each additional vehicle.  No overnight camping.

SAN GABRIEL RIVER RANGER DISTRICT (SGRRD) continued:

 

Rincon/Shortcut OHV Route:   The Shortcut portion of the road is closed until further notice. 

Rincon Road is open to motor vehicles for 10 miles to a closed gate.  The access/exit point is Hwy 39. 

 

The following motor vehicles may access the Rincon road:  High-clearance vehicles (18” ground clearance), e.g. 4x4, Jeep, SUV.  Dual sport motorcycles.   Green & Red stickervehicles, e.g.  ATV, side-by-side and dirt bikes.   All vehicles must be registered.

Permits w/combination must be obtained with a valid Driver’s License and a current Registration, including motorcycles & ATV’s.  Each driver must obtain their own permit.Each driver must obtain his own permit w/combination.  Please provide a current Driver’s License and a Vehicle Registration for each vehicle.

Use of a high clearance vehicle and 4-wheel drive is highly recommended.  (The road conditions of the Rincon/Shortcut road vary greatly due to rock fall, washouts and other effects associated with weather related conditions.  At any given time these conditions may change rapidly.)

You may print (here) and return your completed permit or complete one at the San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area, Sat-Sun, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or at the Glendora District Office Mon-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 

 

CAMPGROUNDS:  

Coldbrook Campground (mm 32.18)Open. First-come, first-served.  No reservations.    $12.00 per site for first vehicle and $5.00 for second vehicle.  Vault toilets.  Fire in the fire ring (bring your own wood) and charcoal must be used in the grill provided by the Forest Service.    

 

Crystal Lake Campground (mm 38.13):  Open. $12.00 per site for one vehicle and $5.00 for second vehicle.   Fee envelopes are available at the gate next to the Visitor Center. 

 

Gate access is between 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. 

 

Fawnskin Picnic Area:  Charcoal only in the grills provided by the Forest Service.  No wood fires.  Propane/Gas stoves are acceptable.  Cost is $5.00 for parking.   Adventure Pass or Interagency will be accepted.

 

Camp sites in Loops A, B and C are OPEN for overnight camping,but may be closed to motorvehicles during the winter seasonAll other sites are closed to camping.   

First-come, first-served.  No reservations.  Fire in the fire ring (bring your own wood)and charcoal must be used in the grill provided by the Forest Service (bring your own charcoal).  Drinking water may be turned off at the site, but is available outside the Visitor Center. 

 

The access road to the lake is Open to vehichle traffic.  Walk in from campsites located in Loops A-C is¾ mile.  Fishing license required.  No Swimming/No Camping.

 

Visitor Center may be open weekends when volunteers are available. 

    

Crystal Lake Store Hrs:  Mon-Fri 7:00 am-7:00 pm.  Closed Tuesday.  Sat/Sun 7 am–8 pm. Open on major holidays.  Accept major credit cards with a $10.00 purchase.

 

Glenn Trail Camp:  Open.  Ten accessible sites available.   Seven (7) mile access by hike-in or bicycle.  Vehicle access with permit for people with disabilities.  Pit toilet and stream water available.  Fire in the fire ring and charcoal must be used in the grill provided by the Forest Service.  Campfire permit is required.

Manker Flats Campground:  CLOSED. Reopen Memorial Day weekend.  First-come, first-served.  No reservations.  Cost per site is $12.00 for first vehicle and $5.00 for second vehicle.  Flush toilets.  Fire in the fire ring (bring your own wood) and charcoal must be used in the grill provided by the Forest Service.

 

RIVERS and STREAMS:   

FISHING: 

A valid California fishing license is required.  For stocking information, contact the California State Fish and Game Department at (562) 594-7268.  

 

Crystal Lake:  The access road to the lake is CLOSED to vehicle traffic until further notice. Walk in from campsites located in Loops A-C is¾ mile.  Fishing license required.  There is No Swimming/No Camping.

East Fork / North Fork / San Antonio River:  Open

West Fork:  Open.  Only artificial flies or lures with barbless hook may be used in the West Fork and its tributaries.  From the second crossing up it is “Catch and Release” only. 

San Gabriel Dam:  North shoreline only.

TARGET SHOOTING

Burro Canyon Shooting Park:   Managed by concessionaireOpen Wednesday through Monday, from 9 am to 4 pm.   Closed onTuesdays.  For further information call (626) 910-1344.  

PICNIC AREAS:

The Oaks:  14 group picnic sites for Day-Use Only.  No camping.  Restrooms are available.  Charcoal allowed in the grills provided by the Forest Service.  No wood fires.  Propane and pressurized gas grills or camp stoves are allowed.  An Adventure Pass or Interagency Passport is required.

HIKING TRAILS

GENERAL INFORMATION:  For safety reasons, hiking trails are not recommended for equestrian or bicycle travel.  During the winter months trail conditions will change; watch the trails/roads for snow, ice and high water conditions, etc. 

 

Bridge to Nowhere (Sheep Mountain Wilderness): Open. Wilderness Permit required if entering at East Fork trailhead.

 

West Fork Road and Bear Creek trails:  Open

 

Crystal Lake Area trails:  Open. 

 

Mt. Baldy trails and peak: 

-Ski Hut and Devil’s Backbone are open.  Crampons may be needed.

-Mt. Baldy Trail aka Bear Canyon Trail:  CLOSED from Bear Flat to the summit           through August 20, 2015, per Forest Order 01-14-06 due to numerous washouts.

Cucamonga Wilderness trails:  Open.  Wilderness Permit required.  A self-serve box is located at the top of the Icehouse Canyon parking lot, past the trailhead (look for 2 kiosks). 

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:  Call the San Gabriel River Ranger District at 626) 335-1251 and ask for Esmeralda Bracamonte, Ext. 238 orMike Hansen, Ext. 249.

 

Be a volunteer Naturalist. The purpose is to provide locally-trained naturalists to answer people’s questions and to lead nature walks at ANF locations.
