Volunteering on the Chippewa!

Public involvement plays an important part in managing our national forest lands. Many Region 9 forests, grasslands, and prairies rely more and more on volunteers to assist with campgrounds and other programs. Concerned citizens help the forest to provide better wildlife habitat, identify and preserve historic sites, and build and maintain trails. We extend a warm welcome to all who wish to volunteer on the Chippewa National Forest.

If you are interested in volunteering,  please contact the Chippewa National Forest at 218-335-8600.

Volunteer Hosts Needed for 2025

A volunteer showing children a craft.

The Chippewa National Forest is seeking volunteers to fill campground and visitor information center host positions for the 2025 season. Volunteer campground hosts help campers with their questions and concerns, post reservations, and help take care of the campground.  Visitor Center volunteers greet visitors, help with the bookstore, and provide information to the public about the Chippewa!

All Volunteers receive a prime campsite and $25 daily reimbursement. If available in the campground, we also provide electric, a dump tank, and a laundry and shower building.

Those interested in spending a summer on the Chippewa National Forest can apply through Volunteer.gov or call the Chippewa National Forest at 218-335-8600 for more information.
