SOPA Reports
The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) contains a list of proposed
actions for Chippewa National Forest that will soon begin or are currently undergoing environmental
analysis and documentation. It provides information so that you can become
aware of and indicate your interest in specific proposals. We encourage your
early and ongoing involvement in any proposals of interest to you.
Pine Grove Lodge has requested approval to add 20 feet to Cabin 5 This project is located on National Forest System lands outside the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe reservation.
Proposal to install new 199 square foot deck attached to the existing cabin on Lot 5, South Winnie Tract This is within the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation.
Replacement of failed copper facility and installation of fiber optic mainline cable for future use. The cable will be buried at 35 inches. The right-of-way will be approximately 383 feet long and 10 feet wide. The installation is planned to occur in the spring/summer of 2026.
The overhead lines will be removed, and the existing material will be used to fill in the pole holes. The new underground will be located within the existing right of way and no additional tree clearing will be required. The cable will be buried directly into the soil using a vibratory cable plow. T
GLGT is requesting to conduct a federally mandated integrity dig. Routine inspections detected anomalies along pipe segments that may require maintenance. The dig will provide visual inspection and the ability to perform required maintenance. The work will be conducted on Line 100.
Permittee proposes replace failing septic system as part of requirements for the upcoming permit renewal. New system will have a 1,500-gallon tank and pressure mound drainfield installed. Old non-compliant drainfield and tank will be removed as part of this project. One 12-inch spruce tree will need
Authorize reoccurrence of equipment to excavate channel bottom sediment approximately 2ft in depth, 3-6ft in width, and 50-150ft in length. Sediment spoils will be deposited adjacent to previous spoils sites.
The project is slated to occur in the Summer of 2026. It includes the installation of BD5 Pedestals and approximately 3429 feet of fiber in an existing right-of-way. The ROW will be 33 feet wide. The line will be plowed and directionally drilled.

MNDNR is requesting to improve FR2350. They want to improve approximately 3600 feet of existing minimum maintenance road from a width of 9 feet to 12 feet and clear brush and trees to a width of 18 feet.
Permittee proposes to maintain approximately 3,800 feet of existing Forest Road 3756B, Imperial Road, by adding gravel and grading surface. Road width will remain unchanged.

road off the end of FR2085. Paul has flagged the location of the proposed temp road for review.
MNDNR to monitor three plots on NFS lands on Walker and Blackduck Ranger Districts.Actual ground disturbance is less than 5 acres. The project is inside the Leech Lake Reservation. Permit action where No Decision Memo required under 7CFR 1b.3(a)(3).
Culverts on the trail have raised out of the ground high enough that mowers are not able to progress on the trail. replacement of the culverts lower in the ground will fix the issue and puncheon would be built over the gap
A current snowmobile trail has drifted off it's original designated route and now encroaches on private property. This project aims to clear trees and brush to put the route back onto it's designated path and buffer the trail from the adjacent lands.

Norway Beach Resort will soon be selling to a new owner, Jimmy Williams. The current permit is issued to Richard Hendry and has an expiration date of December 31, 2023.
Permittee proposes to re-roof cabins 3, 4, 8, 9, and the boat house using Atlas Castlebrook, Weathered Wood color, architectural shingles. All these roofs sustained wind damage this year.

Stony Point Day Use Boat Landing is for visitor day use. This boat landing need to be dredged so visitors can safely get their boats into the harbors. We will dump the dredge material in the stony brush disposal site.
