Alaska State Fish Contest Open for Students!

A drawing of a king salmonAlaskan students, kindergarten through 12th grade, have a unique opportunity to show off their artistic talent and their love of Alaska’s state fish – the King Salmon (also called Chinook Salmon) by competing in the first ever Alaska State-Fish Art Contest. Enter for the opportunity to win the Fish Heritage Award.

Deadline for the contest in March 31st, 2020.

The award-winning Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art® Contest, with support from Title Sponsor Bass Pro Shops, brings children, art, and aquatic conservation together! To enter, young artists create an original illustration of any official state-fish and written words detailing its behavior, habitat, and efforts to conserve it. Entries are categorized in four grade levels: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Educators nationwide utilize Fish On!, the full-color State-Fish Art Lesson Plan, integrating the disciplines of science and art. Entries are due postmarked by March 31st each year.  www.statefishart.org.

Students from Alaska should create their Fish Heritage Award entry consisting of three parts:

  1. Horizontal artwork featuring a King Salmon, 9” by 12” in size
  2. Essay about the King Salmon that is no longer than one page with name and grade on the back
  3. Alaska State-Fish Art Contest entry form , attached to the back of the artwork

Completed entries should be mailed no later than March 31st, 2020 to the following address:

Kid's Fishing Day is Every Year!

Fishing Day takes place every year in June, and is hosted by the Glacier Ranger District. It is an interagency event organized by the Glacier Ranger District, Anchorage Municipality Watershed Management Division, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
