The Alaska Region is home to two of the nation’s largest national forests, the Chugach and Tongass, traditional homelands of Alaska Native peoples. The Alaska Region offers amazing diversity and a multitude of uses.
Subsistence Hearings Scheduled
The Forest Service will hold four subsistence hearings in September and October to gather input on how rescinding the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule could affect subsistence uses on Alaska's national forests.

About the Hearings
The Forest Service will receive oral testimony at the hearings, which will be considered in the development of the final rule and supporting analyses. The Forest Service will not accept written comments at the hearings.
The public may submit written comments during the 30-day comment period for the proposed rule and draft environmental impact statement, which ends at midnight on Sept. 21, 2026.
