Land & Resources Management
The Forest Service plays a vital role in sustaining healthy ecosystems, which contribute to local quality of life. We are strongly committed to the management of the Tonto National Forest in a way that maintains and restores NFS land and water ecosystems, while providing for ecosystem services and multiple uses.
This Land & Resources Management section of our website provides information on Forest Planning, projects that we are planning to implement, resource management topics, and GIS (geographic information systems) data.
Here is how we organized our information:
Planning
Look here for planning documents, which guide how the Tonto National Forest is managed. The Forest Plan, information on the Forest Plan Revision, monitoring reports, and other planning documents are available.
Projects
Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the environmental effects of a proposed activity on the Tonto National Forest must first be analyzed, with opportunity for public comment, before a decision is made on whether or not to undertake that activity. Check out the Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) to find information about site-specific projects, including NEPA analysis status and environmental review documents.
Resources Management
This section currently displays information on wildlife, fish, and rare plants; riparian and wilderness areas; range management; invasive weeds; and mining. Click on the Resources Management link for more information about how these resources are managed on the Tonto National Forest.
Geospatial Data
Geospatial data are geo-referenced, or spatially explicit, digital files that can be used in a GIS (Geographic Information System). Click on the link to view and download available geospatial data for the Tonto National Forest.
