Northern Utah Advisory Committee

Are you looking for an opportunity to serve on a committee that gets things done? 

Do you have an interest in the lands managed by the Forest Service in Northern Utah?   

If you reside in Utah, the Northern Utah Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) may be just what you are looking for.  This committee is guaranteed funding and recommends land management projects on or adjacent to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache and Ashley National Forests in northern Utah. 

The Northern Utah RAC is now looking for members from across northern Utah to represent a wide variety of interest as members of this committee.

Individuals should have an interest in resource management and a strong desire to work collaboratively within a diverse group of interests.

Individuals are being sought to represent a wide variety of interests as members of the Northern Utah Resource Advisory Committee (RAC).  The Northern Utah RAC assists the Ashley and Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forests in reviewing and recommending proposed land management projects on or adjacent to the forests. Funding through Title II of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act. 

Applications should be submitted based on the following categories, of which each will have five people:

Category A

  1. Organized labor or non-timber forest product harvester groups;
  2. Developed outdoor recreation, off-highway vehicle users, or commercial recreation activities;
  3. Energy and mineral development, or commercial or recreational fishing interests;
  4. Commercial timber industry; or
  5. Federal grazing permit or other land use permit holders or represent non-industrial private forest landowners within the area for which the committee is organized.

Category B

  1. Nationally recognized environmental organizations;
  2. Regionally or locally recognized environmental organizations;
  3. Dispersed recreational activities;
  4. Archaeological and historical interests; or
  5. Nationally or regionally recognized wild horse and burro interest groups, wildlife or hunting organizations, or watershed associations.

Category C

  1. State-elected office (or a designee);
  2. County or local-elected office;
  3. American Indian Tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the committee is organized;
  4. Area school officials or teachers; or
  5. Affected public-at-large.

Project Approval Criteria

  1. Project meets the purpose of the Legislation.
  2. Project has been coordinated with the respective county and district ranger.
  3. Project has all required documentation.
  4. Project can be initiated and completed within timeframes.
  5. Project has NEPA completed.

      Title II Project Submission Form

The four-year membership term begins upon appointment by the Secretary of Agriculture. Committee members serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for travel expenses. Members must be residents of Utah.
