The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.
The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.
The Forest Service is considering amending its land management plans to address new and evolving issues arising since implementing sage-grouse plans in 2015. This project is in cooperation with the USDI Bureau of Land Management.
The project proposes locatable minerals exploration drilling of approximately 266 drill sites within the Project Area. Subsequent phases could include up to 334 additional drill sites. Total project disturbance would not exceed 250 acres on NFS lands
Install/replace fencing to protect degraded areas and springs on the SMNRA by install fencing at key sites to reduce impacts from wild horses and burros.
Construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of a 500kV transmission line between Clover Substation in Juab County, Utah, and Robinson Summit Substation in White Pine County,Nevada
Reduce hazardous fuels on Forest Service land surrounding the Kyle Condos to
reduce the risk of fire to the properties. Vegetation thinning will be used to create defensible spacing on FS lands adjacent to Kyle Condos.
202 acres of salvage harvest. 101 acres of roadside hazard tree removal. 303 acres of prescribed burning. 202 acres of planting. 1,815 acres of seeding
Timber restoration and hazardous fuels reduction near Jarbidge, NV. Proposed treatments include mechanical, prescribed fire, biomass utilization of firewood through the local community, prescriptive grazing and fuel breaks.
The Forest Service plans to use mechanical equipment, hand thinning, prescribed fire, prescriptive and targeted grazing to implement up to approximately 20,000 acres per year across the approximate 245,500-acre project area.
Hazardous fuels reduction using hand thinning, cutting, piling, lop/scatter, prescribed fire (pile & understory), and restoration in wildland fire footprints by seed collection, hand planting, and seeding of native trees and plants.
The Forest Service is proposing an expansion of the existing non-motorized groomed winter trail system established on Buckeye Road (FS Road No. 32017), including the Buckeye Campground Loop Road, which was first piloted in 2021.
We propose to apply prescribed fire on up to 30,000 acres of national forest system lands per year to improve native vegetation and wildlife habitats and to reduce risk of uncharacteristic wildfire.
Construction, Operation, Maintenance and Decommissioning of 525kV Transmission Line between Robinson Summit Substation in White Pine County, NV and Fort Churchill Substation in Churchill County, NV.
Current ground-based treatment options are limited by reach (hose length), access, topography, and cost. The Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest proposes to expand current integrated pest management to include Aerial Applicaiton of Herbicide.
Kinross proposes to conduct approximately 140 acres of disturbance through phased
mineral exploration and associated activities in the 7,600 acre Project Area on NFS land over a 10-year period from the date of authorization.
Renew existing transmission and distribution powerlines and consolidate into a master special use permit and operating plan for the operation and maintenance of for five electrical circuits at Mt. Charleston.
The project proposes a locatable mineral exploration drilling program consisting of approximately 43 constructed drill pads and 0.9 miles of constructed new temporary road. Disturbance is estimated at approximately 12 acres.
The proposed action is to authorize cattle grazing within the McKinney, Meadow Canyon, Monitor Valley East, Monitor Valley West, Silver Creek, and Table Mountain allotments in a manner that will not hinder attainment of LRMP desired condition
Construction project to provide a fire-fighting facility for a more rapid and effective response to wildland fires in the southern and western portions of the SMNRA as well as the southern portion of the Las Vegas Interagency Reponse area.
The project proposes locatable minerals exploration drilling from approximately 6 drill sites within the Project Area. Subsequent phases could include up to an additional 9 drill sites. Total project disturbance would not exceed 15 acres on NFS lands
The Pearl Peak Research Project would allow a University of Idaho graduate student to study ecology and biogeochemisty for his dissertation by collect bristlecone pine core samples along with soil samples within the Pearl Peak Research Natural Area.
Project consists of the temporary construction of up to 25 miles of new and/or reconstruction of previously reclaimed roads; construction of 250 drill sites; exploration drilling activities, and reclamation of all proposed disturbances.
NV Energy proposes replacement of three electrical transmission lines (101, 102, and 133) with modernized electrical design line, using existing alignment (right of way) to significantly improve reliability within the electric power grid.
The Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt Toiyabe (HT) National Forest is proposing improvements to the Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Trail, a 1.3-mile loop, in Washoe County, Nevada approximately 10 miles north of Incline Village. The proposed action
Issuance of a temporary use outfitter and guide permit to Toiyabe Heli Adventuresfor Heliskiing in the Sweetwater Mountains. Skiing would be from December 15 to March 31.
The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest proposes to reduce forest fire hazard by using mechanical methods and/or prescribed fire to reduce tree density, fuel loading both live and dead and reduce ladder fuels on National Forest Systems Lands.
Applicant to dig 2 soil pits (3'long x 3' wide x 5' deep) for earthquake research near the Thomas Creek trail head (39.396147 -119.836572 and 39.393938 -119.836237). Samples taken over 2 days, pits will be backfilled once samples are complete.
Improve the Upper Kyle Canyon Trail System by reconstructing the Mary Jane Falls Trail and parking complex to include surveying authorized and unauthorized trails to determine areas of the Mary Jane Falls trail to reconstruct, re-route, or restore.
Authorize the addition of a Fiber optic line to existing power poles along State Route 160 in the Pahrump valley and into Mountain Springs, NV. The planned installation will take place during calendar year 2025 if approved.
Authorize the addition of a Fiber optic line to existing power poles along State Route 157, Telephone Pole Rd to Angel Peak communication site and along Cold Creek Rd. The planned installation will take place during calendar year 2025 if approved.
