SOPA Reports
The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) contains a list of proposed
actions for Shoshone National Forest that will soon begin or are currently undergoing environmental
analysis and documentation. It provides information so that you can become
aware of and indicate your interest in specific proposals. We encourage your
early and ongoing involvement in any proposals of interest to you.
The Forest is proposing the construction of three boat launch sites to improve recreation opportunities, increase the safety of put-in/take-out sites, minimize impacts to hydrology resources, and protect cultural resources.
The proposed activities of the project would include a combination of fuels reduction and mitigation work (cut/pile/burn), aspen enhancement, removal of dead/dying timber, and improvement of defensible space adjacent to values-at-risk.
The landowner is requesting to acquire a special use permit for approximately 1960 cubic yards of rock material from Forest Service land adjacent to his property.
The Forest Service is proposing to move the existing base camp from the current location at the confluence of Bliss creek and the South Fork of the Shoshone to a nearby location in the vicinity.
The Shoshone National Forest proposes to utilize commercial timber harvest with to reduce hazardous fuels and remove beetle killed timber in the Carter Mountain area.

The Shoshone is proposing to renew special use permits that have previously been reviewed and authorized. Five permits are being considered. The new permits will not include proposed changes to the authorization.
Analysis of livestock management on the Meeteetse, Pickett Creek, Sage Creek and Piney Creek Allotments on the Greybull Ranger District and the Bear Creek, Wiggins Fork, Warm Springs and Wind River Allotments on the Wind River Ranger District.
The proposal is to renew a term special use permit to PacifiCorp, dba Rocky Mountain Power, for the operation and maintenance of a powerline system. All 40 permits would be combined into one master permit.
This is a proposed long term solution for bank stabilization on Sunlight Creek where it intersects with FSR 101.2A (7D Rd). 200 linear feet of bank will be stabilized using large woody debris and historic gravel will be replaced.
The intent of this project is to selectively remove conifer trees from 43 acres of crucial habitats used by the imperiled Whiskey Mountain bighorn sheep herd located in the northeast portion of the Wind River Mountain range.
The Shoshone National Forest is considering a minimum road system and a designated system of roads and trails for wheeled vehicle (motorized) use and trails and areas for over-snow vehicle use across the Forest.
The intent of this project is to construct a new trail. The trail will be a continuation of an already constructed trail on the immediately adjacent state park. User created trails in the area will either be decommissioned or adopted as system trails
The Lander Cycling Club has proposed over-snow grooming of the 5.5 mile long Upper Brewers Trail and a 1-mile portion of Forest Road 302.1E on the Washakie District for non-motorize over-snow use limited to skis, fat tire bikes and snowshoe travel.
