The Forest Service offers picnicking opportunities in developed areas throughout national forests, with amenities like picnic tables, vault toilets, and fire grates or rings, and some areas may require fees or reservations.

- Amenities
- Most picnic areas have picnic tables, vault toilets, and fire grates or rings.
- Day-use areas
- Day-use areas are generally open from sunrise to sunset.
- First-come, first-served
- Most picnic areas operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with some exceptions which accept reservations.
- Fees
- Some picnic areas may charge a fee.
- Wildlife safety
- Always be mindful of wildlife, especially bears, and store food properly in bear-resistant containers or vehicles.
- Fire restrictions
- Check for fire restrictions and permits before starting a campfire, as fire danger levels can vary.
- Garbage
- Be prepared to pack out all trash, as onsite garbage service may be limited or unavailable.
