Two Mouth Lakes Trail #268

Two Mouth Lakes Trail #268 is the route needed to take to access Two Mouth Lakes. Both of these pretty lakes are surrounded by fir and spruce forests. Giant boulders are intermingled with marshy and grassy areas, typically waterlilies, cattails and dogtooth violets. From here you get a great view of Harrison Peak Throughout the trail there is an abundance of wildlife and thick huckleberry patches.

The trail follows an old road for about ¾ of a mile. For the most part, the trail climbs at a medium grade (about 15% on average) and is readily visible with good tread. It travels through hemlock, fir and spruce forests with areas of cedar. Between the 1.5- and 2-mile mark, there are several muddy areas, but most of them have wooden walkways to make passing over them easier. Beyond this the trail begins to steepen and has several quite steep pitches. At about the 2.5 mile mark the trail crosses over Slide Creek, which is a rocky passage, but not difficult to pass. When you get to about the 2.7-mile mark, you will be at the dop of the pass, here you will have a good view of Two Mouths Lake and Harrison Peak

The Trail gently descends from this point to the lower lake. There are acceptable foot paths around the lower lake, though you will need to be careful of marshy areas and ground that is easily damaged. There are campsites available around the lake. Shortly before reaching the lower lake, the trail will split off with on leg heading to the upper lake. The trail to the upper lake traverses stretches of flat rock where it will be necessary to watch for cairns to find the trail.
