Topaz timber sale near Sturgis, SD Continues Operations

The Topaz timber sale near Sturgis, SD continues operations.

Tethered fuels reduction (a steep slope logging/fuels treatment system that uses equipment tethered to steel cables) is being utilized to perform chipping and mastication operations.  These operations cause flying debris.

The operations will occasionally be in close proximity to and cross the Sturgis trails. Safety signs will be placed at beginnings of trails.  Flaggers will be onsite to alert trail users when operations are in close proximity to or when equipment is tethered across trails.  Equipment and vehicles supporting operations will be using main roadways for access to units.
