Meet the Black Hills Birds of Prey

August 6, 2025 — The Black Hills National Forest is hosting the August Moon Walk on Saturday, August 9, at 7 pm along the Carson Draw Trail near Sundance, Wyoming.

The forests and grasslands of the Black Hills provide important habitat for several raptor species, including hawks, eagles, falcons and owls. The mixed hardwood forest and open pine savanna of the Bearlodge Ranger District are home to over 20 different species of birds of prey. The Forest Service staff and Avian Ambassadors from the Black Hills Raptor Center will host a walk and presentation to educate the public about the raptors within the forest.  Read more.
