'76 Trailhead

Looking for a View?

The '76 Trail is a 3/4-mile moderate to strenuous trail that takes hikers to a summit offering panoramic views of Spearfish Canyon. It is a steep trail and climbs over 1,000 feet in a short distance. This trail is limited to foot traffic only (no pets, horses, motor vehicles, and/or bikes are allowed). Although a challenging hike, the reward is the feeling of seclusion and visual beauty of the surrounding landscape.

The '76 Trail is dedicated to the public through the partnership support of the South Dakota Game Fish & Parks Department, South Dakota Community Foundation, Spearfish Canyon Foundation, and Black Hills National Forest. The trail is located within Spearfish Canyon along Roughlock Falls Road on the west side of Hwy 14A near Savoy, South Dakota. NOTE: The trailhead does not provide adequate parking for multiple vehicles. Interested hikers are encouraged to park in the nearby Roughlock Falls Nature Area parking lot, located just past the trailhead and Spearfish Canyon Lodge.
