Yates Pond

Yates Ponds are approximately 1.3 acre ponds on Spearfish Creek. The Forest Service owns the shoreline. Private land ownership is nearby but does not include the shoreline. The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks manages the fishing here so consult the state fishing regulations prior to fishing. As of this writing the allowed fishing is catch-and release and forbids the possession of organic bait within 100 feet of the ponds. The ponds have good populations of rainbow and brown trout. Parking is available on the west side of US14A.

Getting There

Directions

To access the Yates Ponds from Cheyenne Crossing (intersection of US 14A and 85), travel north on US 14A for approximately 0.25 miles to the parking and Yates Ponds which are on the west side of the road. The Forest Service maintains the Yates Ponds for fishing, hiking, and dispersed picnicking.
