Permits
Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland are open year-round for your use and enjoyment. Fees are charged at most developed recreation sites and permits are required for certain activities and uses. These fees are used to help maintain, manage, and improve the amenities you enjoy. Business permittees, such as outfitters and campground concessionaires, may provide services at a charge to public land users.
Firewood Permits

Firewood collection provides the opportunity to supplement or replace conventional energy sources. After purchasing a permit, you may cut and remove firewood from the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests for personal use home heating.
Non-Wood Forest Products

The public may harvest a range of forest products from the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests, including firewood, plant and tree transplants, ferns, mushrooms, Christmas trees, and more.
Event and Commercial Permits

Recreation, commercial, and event permits allow us to serve the people in a variety of ways. From outfitting to ski clinics, from fishing contests to bike races, special use permits are required to ensure safe enjoyment of your public lands.
Other Permits

Some other events, such as weddings, may require permits. States also require permits or licenses for activities like fishing and OHV.
