Recreation Region: Steamboat Springs Area

Buffalo Pass

Buffalo Pass is a popular dispersed recreation hub, partly because of its proximity to Steamboat Springs. The area, however, was lacking in Forest Service trails, so many visitors created trails instead. In 2016, the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District conducted an analysis of the trails in the Buffalo Pass Trails Project. It allowed the District Ranger to approve the construction of new trails and to improve the user created trails in the area for a total of 43 miles - map. The decision also included the provision to prohibit bicycles and other wheeled vehicles from leaving the designated trails and roads in the Buffalo Pass area.
