North Fork Clear Creek Trailhead

The North Fork Clear Creek Trailhead is located at the end of FSR 390.A, which is a high clearance 4-wheel drive road. Access the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area from this trailhead via the North Fork Clear Creek Trail #1463. 

North Fork Clear Creek Trail #1463 is 2 miles one way, with multiple water crossings and sections of talus fields. This is not considered a challenging hike but the starting elevation is 10,762ft with and ending elevation of 11,010ft. The trail has some shaded areas but most of the trail is exposed which offers 360 views, forest areas, mountain meadows, creek crossings. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.

Directions

From Leadville: Travel 19 miles south on US Highway 24, turn right on Lake County Road 390 (Clear Creek Road) then travel 11 miles on CR 390 to the Winfield Mining Camp Interpretive Site. Just past the interpretive site the road forks, take FS 390.A to reach the trailhead.

From Buena Vista: Travel 14 miles north on US Highway 24, turn left on Lake County Road 390 (Clear Creek Road) then travel 11 miles on CR 390 to Winfield Mining Camp Interpretive Site. Just past the interpretive site the road forks, take FS 390.A to reach the trailhead.

The first few miles of Lake County Road 390 (Clear Creek Road) go through private property, please be respectful and stay on the road.
