Pomeroy Lakes
The lakes have very good fishing for cutthroat trout and rainbow trout crossed with cutthroat. It is stocked periodically, and the average sized fish is 10-12 inches. The ice does not completely melt on Upper Pomeroy Lake until late June or early July.
The road travels past the historic Mary Murphy mine and boarding house. The mine was one of the largest and most profitable producers of gold and silver ore during the 1880s through the 1920s. Do not disturb any of the historic structures by removing artifacts.

Directions
Visitors can access the area by traveling on Highway 285 from either Buena Vista or Salida, Colorado.
From Buena Vista, travel south on Highway 285 for about 7 miles, then turn right on County Road 162. Travel west on County Road 162 for 15.5 miles to the intersection of Forest Service Road 295. Travel south on Forest Service Road 295 for 3 miles to the junction of Forest Service Road 297. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 297 and travel southeast for 2.5 miles to the parking area.
Vehicles are not permitted to drive to the lake.
