Pomeroy Lakes

The lakes have very good fishing for cutthroat and Rainbow crossed with cutthroat. It is stocked periodically and the average sized fish is 10 - 12 inches. The ice does not completely melt on Upper Pomeroy Lake until late June or early July.

The road travels past the historic Mary Murphy mine and boarding house. The mine was one of the largest and most profitable producers of gold and silver ore during the 1880's through the 1920's. Do not disturb any of the historic structures by removing artifacts.

Directions

Visitors can access the area by traveling on Highway 285 from either Buena Vista or Salida. From Buena Vista travel south on Highway 285 for approximately 7 miles then turn right on County Road 162. Travel west on CR 162 for 15.5 miles to the intersection of FR 295. Travel south on FR 295 for 3 miles to the junction of FR 297. Turn left on to FR 297 and travel southeast for 2.5 miles to the parking area.

Vehicles are not permitted to drive to the lake.
