Pass Creek Trail #1411
The trail begins near some old mine tailings and travels southwest towards a small ridge and then drops down to Pass Creek. The trail follows the creek and passes several beaver ponds that offer good fishing for brook trout. The lake is relatively small and shallow but is well stocked with brook trout.

A high-clearance vehicle is needed for the last mile of County Road 212.
Getting There
Parking
Parking is limited to five- to six-passenger vehicles. The turn-around at the end of the road is small and not easily navigated by large vehicles.
Directions
From Poncha Springs, travel west on Highway 50 for 2 miles and turn left onto County Road 210. A Forest Service sign will indicate access to Little Cochetopa Creek and Pass Creek. Continue traveling for 4 miles to the trailhead.

Fishing - Lake & Pond Info
Pass Creek Lake is relatively small and shallow, but brook trout can be seen swimming along the bottom of the lake. Fishing success is best guaranteed by using a wet fly with a bobber or a very small lure.
Give the beaver ponds along the stream a try as you hike up towards the lake.
Day Hikes Info
The hike to Pass Creek Lake is one of the area's favorite day hikes. The trail is 4 miles long and climbs steadily to the lake. The lake is relatively shallow, and brook trout can be seen swimming along the lake bottom.
Backpacking Info
This is a great hike for an overnight trip to a secluded high lake. Camping is permitted in several sites located away from the lake. The trail follows the stream as it climbs steadily to the basin.
OHV Trail Riding Info
The Pass Creek Trail is open to motorcycles. It is a great ride up to the lake for a day of fishing or a picnic. The trail stops at the lake and the ride is only 8 miles roundtrip.
ATVs are not permitted on this trail due to width restrictions.
