Bradfield Campground

The Bradfield Campground is located 30 miles northwest of Dolores in the Dolores River Canyon below McPhee Dam. The campground is large and open with 22 campsites, all first-come, first-serve. It has easy access to a boat ramp and trailer parking which is busy popular during the short rafting season on the Dolores River (several weeks around Memorial Day weekend). 

Amenities include trash pickup,  picnic tables, and fire grates. Between September and May, there are limited or no services (water, trash pick up or restrooms). Please keep the campground clean and pack out any trash!

All sites are first-come, first serve.

General Information

Dolores River: The campground has a boat-launching area for rafts, canoes, and kayak trips on the lower Dolores River.

Dolores River Fishing: You can keep fish caught downstream from Bradfield Bridge, but above it is catch-and-release.

Dry Canyon Fishing Site - Dry Canyon Fishing Site is on the northeastern shore of McPhee Reservoir. From Dolores, it is a trip of about 40 miles, most of it on gravel roads. There are restrooms and fishing access here.

McPhee Reservior Recreation Area - The largest reservoir in the San Juan National Forest, McPhee Reservoir is a wonderful area for boating, fishing, water activities complete with a campground and full service marina.

Getting There

Directions

From Dolores: Travel west on Highway 145 for 2 miles. Turn right on Highway 184 for 8 miles. Head north (turn right) on U.S. Hwy 491 for 13 miles, then turn right on Forest Road 505 for 1 mile.

The campground is in the Dolores River canyon, below McPhee Dam. Travel southeast on Forest Road 504 to get to McPhee Dam.
