Florida Campground

The Florida Campground is located 4 miles north of Miller Creek Campground above Lemon reservoir along the Florida River. The campground has 20 shaded campsites, all first-come, first serve. A few short pull-thru and back-in sites can accommodate larger RVs.  Douglas fire, blue spruce and aspens provide campers with some well-shaded sites near the river. Large groups can reserve the Florida Group Area located just beyond the regular camping area. The group site accommodates up to 75 people, has 6 double tables, a buffet table, and 4 fire grates. RV parking is limited.

General Information

May through September. For specific open / closure dates, visit recreation.gov. 

Check-in time: 2:00 pm

Check-out time: 12:00 pm

If the site is empty, campers may come in anytime.

Quiet time is typically between 10pm - 6am. Please be a good neighbor and limit use of generators to no more than one hour at a time.

Do not trespass on the private property adjacent to the south side of the campground.

Directions

Florida Campground is on the north end of Lemon Reservoir, four miles north of Miller Creek Campground. Private property adjoins the campground on the south side; please do not trespass.

From Durango, CO: Travel about 13 miles on Florida Road (County Road 240). Continue straight on County Road 243 approximately 6 miles to the campground entrance.

From Bayfield, CO: Travel 9.0 miles north on County Road #501, then 3.0 miles northwest on County Road #240, and finally 6.0 miles north on County Road #243 to the campground entrance.

Parking

RV parking is limited.

Equipment with wheels (RVs, campers, cars) must fit in the parking spur.  There is not any overflow parking available.

Recreation Opportunities

Fishing - River/Stream Info

The Florida River is well known for its rainbow and brown trout fishing, but the river runs through much private land, so anglers should be careful not to trespass. 

Hunting Info

The surrounding area is open to public hunting; deer, elk and small game such as rabbits and grouse inhabit the forest.

Hiking Info

Lost Lake and Stump Lake Trails: These trails can be accessed near the campground entrance along the East Florida Road (Forest Rd. 597) offering short, easy hikes to backcountry lakes.

Burnt Timber Trail (No. 667): This trail begins at Transfer Park Campground, about a mile north of the campground. 

Boating - Non-Motorized Info

Lemon Reservoir offers great fishing and non-motorized boating opportunities.
