West Mamm Trailhead
The West Mamm Trailhead is located south of Rifle and provides access to the mid-point of the Battlement Trail. This is one of the Forest Service's closest access points to the City of Rifle, and the primary trailhead for exploring the Mamm Creek drainage. From the trailhead parking area, visitors can hike or ride 1.25 miles west to reach the top of Battlement Mesa. Alternatively, visitors can travel south and then east toward Middle Mamm and East Mamm Creeks. Either choice will lead visitors through serene forest with occasional breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Please note that this area is an active cattle allotment during the summer. Due to its lower elevation, the West Mamm Creek Trailhead may be accessible earlier in the spring and later in the fall than many other Forest Service recreation sites (but please check with your local Ranger District office before heading out).
