Wilson Mesa/Sleepy Cat Peak #1800

The Wilson Mesa/Sleepy Cat Peak Trail is 10.9 miles long and offers access to a roadless section that is popular with hunters. The trail heads in an easterly direction through open meadows and aspen. After .5 mile, it drops into a fork of Morapos Creek and climbs up a ridge top to the Wymore Lake Trail junction. The trail then drops
into the main fork of Morapos Creek, crosses it, and again climbs a small ridge before dropping gradually into the east fork of Morapos Creek. After following this intermittent stream about 3/4 mile, the trail leaves the bottom and switchbacks up to a bald ridge, then through aspen stands to Wilson Mesa.

From Wilson Mesa, the Elk Head Mountains stand out to the north and Axial Basin to the west. The trail now turns south following the divide between Morapos Creek and Pine Creek for 3 miles emerging in the west end of Salt Park where it junctions with the Salt Park Trail # 1114

It begins at the Morapos Trailhead and ends at Forest Road 299.
