  • Winter 2025/2026 pile burns on the Kaibab NF

The Kaibab National Forest is planning prescribed fire pile burns on up to approximately 9,000 acres on the Williams and Tusayan ranger districts and approximately 1,100 acres on the North Kaibab Ranger District, pending all required approvals. We estimate this work to continue through the 2025/2026 winter as weather conditions allow. See attached maps for locations.

Residents may experience smoke during the prescribed burns. For more detailed information about air quality, go to AirNow online or download the app. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights when you encounter smoke on the road.

Although rare for pile burning, some temporary area closures for public safety may be warranted. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas.

We will evaluate weather conditions and snowpack before a pile burn begins. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled.

Stay informed about the scheduled prescribed fires through the forest social media channels and InciWeb, the interagency incident information system.
