The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.

The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.

Kaibab National Forest Projects

The comprehensive plan will establish the administrative objectives, policies, processes, and management guidelines necessary to fulfill the legislative requirements for national scenic trails under the National Trails System Act.

Construct approximately 4.2-miles of singletrack shared-use non-motorized recreation trail to remove the Arizona Trail (a State Scenic Trail and National Scenic Trail) from its current co-location with Nat. Forest Systems Roads on located on KNF-NKRD

The purposes of the Burnt Corral project is to improve forest health and vigor, while improving habitat conditions which are more resilient to change in the event of wildfire and/or other climatic condition changes. Project = 28,090 acres.

Due to injury and fatality, the permittee for the Corva Allotment is requesting to install approximately 0.33 mile of fence and a gate along FR 744 to prevent cattle from attempting to cross a cattle-guard.

Implementation of forest restoration activities including thinning of trees, prescribed fire treatments, and watershed and road restoration within 988,764 acres of the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests. See www.fs.usda.gov/4fri for information.

The purpose of this project is to reconstruct four nonfunctioning water catchments that would provide water to wildlife within the Williams Ranger District.

The purpose of this project is to install approximately half a mile of fence along East Garland Prairie Road for pasture management within the Garland Prairie Allotment.

The Kaibab Plateau Public and Firefighter Safety Project would mitigate hazard trees on 4,359 acres in areas that burned in the 2025 Dragon Bravo and White Sage fires and would create 5,067 acres of shaded fuel breaks along key roads in areas of the Kaibab Plateau unaffected by the 2025 wildfires.

Reforestation (i.e., Tree Planting~5,000 acres; Natrl.Regen~2000 acres; & Naturl.Recovery~900 acres) in mod-to-severe burn areas in Mangum Fire Burn Scar. per 2021 REPLANT Act. 10-years to complete. & re-seeding 6,000 acres of Pinyon-Juniper area.

Analyze the effects of reauthorizing grazing on the allotment, including changes to number of animal unit months, additional water catchments and repair and extension of a water pipeline.

Development of up to 39 rock pits affecting a total of 434 acres on the Coconino and Kaibab national forests to provide materials for surfacing roads to maintain safe and sustainable road conditions.

Installation of fiber-optic cable from Fredonia to Jacob Lake, AZ along FS Roads 22, 462, 461, and U.S. Hwy. 89-A. The network will benefit 24 residences, a farm, several businesses, and state and federal agencies who own or manage land in this area.

The Prescott National Forest is proposing a land exchange between the Prescott, Coconino, Kaibab, and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests and the Yavapai-Apache Nation (YAN). More information at https://yavapai-apache.org/land-exchange
